Flat Rock Family Health Center
Advanced patient-care medical home
On 15 September 2009, a new medical practice opened in Hendersonville—Pardee’s Flat Rock Family Health Center—housed in TFC’s building. The brainchild of Dr. Steve Crane, TFC’s Volunteer Medical Director, the practice offers an advanced patient-center medical home, which means a true partnership between patients and their healthcare providers to ensure all aspects of care are effectively managed and coordinated. The practice provides quality healthcare by incorporating advanced concepts into primary care, such as same-day appointments made online, e-visits, and group medical visits. The use of technology creates a low-overhead model for improving patient outcomes while simultaneously reducing healthcare costs.
After significant consideration, TFC’s Board elected to enter into the time-share agreement with Pardee for several reasons: 1) the building was built as a community resource for healthcare which could be used to best benefit the community through the creation of a new practice, 2) the time-share agreement would provide a cooperative use of space with the Pardee program, and 3) the practice model planned to target uninsured patients ineligible for TFC due to income.
The new partnership with Pardee’s Flat Rock Family Health Center has proven successful for the community. The practice is meeting an unmet need by providing access to healthcare for uninsured persons who earn too much for TFC (and other sliding scale medical fees). The practice also gaining recognition from other hospitals and practices throughout the country for delivering quality healthcare at reduced cost.
